Allan Pettersson studied with Arthur Honegger, Darius Milhaud, Oliver Messiaen and René Leibowitz. Clearly influenced by a difficult youth in Stockholm’s slums and suffering from painful polyarthritis in his last 27 years, his music mirrors his inner core which had been misunderstood for decades. In 1968 Antal Dorati conducted the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and premiered Allan Pettersson’s 7th symphony. This performance led to his breakthrough.
